Connecting Equipment to AVR

Hi I have a Denon AVR-2308, it has two HDMI inputs marked:

1 DVD/HDP
2 TV/CBL

It also has three Component inputs marked:

1 DVD/HDP
2 TV/CBL
3 DVR

I have a STB, AppleTV, DVD and wii that I want to add.

My question is. Once I have used the two HDMI inputs does that mean I can't use the Component inputs with the same name?

I haven’t read the owner’s manual for your unit, but every AVR I’ve owned you can reassign any input to any listening mode.

So yes, you should be able to use the HDMI labeled TV/CBL and the Component labeled TV/CBL at the same time, but you will have to go into your AVR’s setup menu to tell it how to route the signal.

The input labels are there to help you keep track of what you are doing.

As nibhaz says, you can probably reassign the inputs to some other source. You will want to read your manual to see if you can with your receiver.

Also, if you want more HDMI inputs, you can add on something like:

http://www.oppodigital.com/hm31/

It would hook up to one of your HDMI inputs, and you could hook up three HDMI sources to it.

There are other models, some of which are cheaper, but the one at the link above is highly regarded (meaning it actually seems to work properly) and it has some nice automatic switching capabilities.

They are all assignable. Just use the numeric labels as a guide instead.
