Connecting Comp to reciever

Here's a dumb question, but I just got the RX-V1500 Yamaha amp. I tried last nite to connect it to my computer via rca cables to stereo miniplug and going out of the speaker jacks on my audigy zs card. All I get is a low level hum. I put it on the cd input and then tried the phono input on the reciever, same thing.

I then hooked up the cable to my xm reciever and it played thru the reciever fine. Why won't the computer sound go thru? (I've done this exact same setup before with an aiwa stereo).

Also, I tried putting a splitter on my xm radio so i can output it thru comp speakers and yamaha. Doing this yielded a low level (loud) hum on my comp speakers. Is the yamaha preventing something here?

You have the mini jack going out of the sound card to rca to the receiver? If so and you get a hum you may have the mini jack in the wrong port.

You're using the speaker output? Try using a line level output from your audio card.

The ZS has a digital output mini jack. I have yet to be able to find the an adapter or cable that will allow me to transmit 5.1 through that connection, however, a stereo mini to rca adapter coupled with a SPDIF coax into one of the coax connectins in the back of my Yamaha gets me stereo signals just fine.

Line level output port does the same thing, the speakers just hum.

I have no clue why this is happening. I've tried both speaker out ports too.

Like I said, the cable works because I can use it with my xm radio no prob. Anything in the reciever preventing this from working?
