Good Afternoon all you audioholics , I have a real problem here
that I would like to solve, chiming in would be a great idea.
I noticed how the forum "Thinking of returning the m80's
" got a lot of input, here I have a similar situation.
I currently have a small porch with a computer and I have 7 svs sbs-01 speakers as well as their pc plus subwoofer tucked upright into the corner as a speaker system for my computer.
The speakers are with a feet or 2(no more than 2/12 or 3 feet away) from me and I am using yamaha's multi-channel input feature to use the speakers with my computer.
First, things first- I have an x-fi elite pro with a cirrus logic cs4398 dac which is used in audiophile and recording equipment. Secondly, my yamaha rx-v2600 is being inputted with 2 impact acoustics camcorder to rca cables and two monoprice rca cables connected to a 3.5mm to two rca females. Each speaker is connected to the yamaha rx-v2600 with a 40 foot 12 guage speaker wiring from monoprice except one of the speakers may have a 50 foot cable.
The sound is obviouslly not sounding as I expect it to be on my computer, although I acknwledge its a different experience and probably more detailed than a logitech z-5500.
Playing Diana Krall's Loseless christamas songs, or Love scenese on dts reveals decent sound in terms of the instrument details but the sound stage and reverb effects are not existent.
I do have a thx calibrator and am not sure how to use it correctly, the options are db level which is set to 0db and you can go below that and also distance.
I have decided to use the "pure direct" feature for the yamaha which may be helping me somewhat but not so much.
In terms of the bass it is decent but can sound a bit muddy at times, it does blend well when I play music but I have to lower it to 70% and even that doesn't sound right.
Here is a good comparison, with my logitech z-5500 I often would drive it loudly on occassion and feel a rush of energy when playing music. The subwoofer would chunk out bass that I could often feel such as while listening to linkin park I could move with the bass.
The new system makes listening to music much better with slower paced music although it has flaws. I have tried the THX calibrator and it is confusing me

,
The yamaha YPAO microphone doesnt work, let me tell what happeend. I hear the yamaha test tones coming out and then I put the subwoofer to a high setting because when I perfomed the test with a low setting it didn't work.
The test fails and sets my center speaker to Large- the svs-01 center and says my subwoofer is too low I beleive.
I know there is nothing wrong with the subwoofer anyways as I have played 20hz test tones and the like.
As such I am using pure direct mode, and with the volume of 0db on the receiver.
However, i dont know what to do, does anybody have the x-fi in their system, I know Sheep was talking to someone who had it. The sound is affected greatly if I vary the disances in the thx setup console as piano instruemnts do not sound as sharp and the like.
I rarely feel the bass when I play music and the like but it sound better as the bass adds dimension to the music and makes me go along with it. If I step aside while the music is playing and leave my spot I am astonished at how loud the bass is and how it shakes or leaves an impressing , as opposed to me sitting there and being immersed.
What do I do?
