Composite to component Up-converter

My customer purchased a Pioneer LD/DVD player ($900) unit, which he wants me to integrate into a distributed video system, using a component video matrix switch. The thing is, this awfully expensive unit does not up-convert LD to component video! Ridiculous as it is, I have to find a composite to component up-converter... Does anyone have any experience with products of this type? The cheaper the better, considering that my customer already spent close to a grand for an obsolete technology...

Thank you for any input on this issue.

Not able to find something yet. I'll keep looking, but the chances aren't good.

Does the display device not take a composite video input? If so that's gonna be the cheap solution.

All TV's do accept composite, the only thing is that I am using an 8x8 matrix switch to distribute all the sources. I do have a Cat5 running to every location, I could use that to feed composite video to all TV's, the only thing is I would have to reprogram all pronto remotes to switch inputs on all TV's, which would take a while. So up-converting composite (or s-video) is the best option... if there is such an option
Thanks for quick responses guys.

I don't think there is a viable option here. There simply isn't a high enough demand for the product we are talking about to get the cost low enough.

Sounds like a crazy setup.

Is that a new player your customer bought or one he has? It might be cheaper to replace it, say with an Oppo BluRay, $400, less than the switcher:D

Any Denon receiver from the middle of the line up, for the last two years will do this.

Just a thought.

That's one of the least expensive items out there that will do a really good job.

This one:

I have no idea the quality, but it is a very basic composite to component transcoder.

I would also take a hard look at this...
http://cgi.ebay.com/Silicon-Image-Progressive-Scan-Display-Interface-MM503A_W0QQitemZ320404481284QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item4a99986504&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

It's an older model, but very well regarded and fairly bullet proof.

FYI: Complaining about a matrix switcher not being more than a matrix switcher is really silly. A component video matrix switcher costs thousands of dollars... A scaling matrix switcher tends to cost TENS of thousands of dollars for the same functionality.

So, you have solutions from the cheap, to mid-level which will do the trick and will range in quality. I would personally try that last option first, then consider carefully the first & second options.

Thanks a lot, I actually found this item before you posted, but it ended up being a perfect inexpensive solution. Thanks for this post and for your understanding of this issue, unlike some other members. System is now complete and it performs flawlessly. The idea was to have the LD distributed throughout the house via a matrix switch, ridiculous that a $900 player would not output through component video. But the switch did the job.
Thanks again.
