Hi all,

Okay, here we go.

On Monday I was pretty much decided on the following for my 7.1 system, though some audition and excellent advice from this forum.

Fronts: Energy C-200s (already bought for $250 but can return)
Centre: Energy C-C100
Side Surrounds: Energy C-R100's
Rear Surrounds: Energy C-50's
Sub: 20-39PCi Cylinder Subwoofer

Cost: $1956CDN

On Wednesday I was at this
Fronts: Energy C-200s (already bought for $250 but can return)
Centre: Energy C-C100
Side Surrounds: Energy C-R100's
Rear Surrounds: Energy C-50's
Sub: 20-39PC-Plus Cylinder Subwoofer

Cost: $2246CDN

Now that it Friday I am looking at a possible full SVS system. (Not that I have ruled out the Energy's, but still looking at options)
Fronts: SBS-01s
Centre: SCS-01
Side Surrounds: SBS-01s
Rear Surrounds: SBS-01s
Sub: 20-39PC-Plus Cylinder Subwoofer

Cost: $1840CDN

Now I am not worried about cost for the system as they are all around $2000 but of the last two I am wondering which I would like better. The sub is agiven as it will be the 20-39PC-Plus Cylinder Subwoofer. I can listen to the energy's in-store, but would have to pay shipping both ways to try and return the SVS speakers if I did not like them. I have read good things about the SVS speakers but am not sure.

My usage is 60% HT, 35% games, 5%Music

Any system will be driven by a Pioneer Elite VSX-81TXV

Thoughts???

I am in Canada so really don't want to get from the states as duty will probably be outrageous

Thanks much
Michael

Well, the Energy line has the same timber, so I would buy the SVS front speakers and compare the 2. Take back the ones you don't like, and buy the rest for the ones you do.

I would try the SVS setup, but substitute two SCS-01's for the front SBS-01's. I really like the sound better (not that the SBS-01's are bad at all), and as soon as I can afford it, I will be switching my front speakers to the SCS's, and moving my SBS-01s to the rear surrounds, replacing the two Radio Shack Minimus speakers (with crossover mods) I'm using now.

Between the speakers, guns, PC stuff I want, and my other hobbies, I really need to hit the lottery.

I agree with the last post.

I have SCS's across the front and the matching front speakers really make a big difference. My prior infinity set up was always bright at center no matter what I did and now everything blends great.

Exactly what he said... go with the matching larger L/C/R and stay with SVS, you will be able to get a package discount for getting the plus sub with their 5.1 or 7.1 system. Just give them a call and place your order over the phone so you can work with the sales person instead of the website.

I too have the same speakers, guns, and pc hobbies... it's hard to decide what stuff to buy on my limited budget... :(
