Compatibility to car plug-in?

Hello everyone,

Well as the name says, im new when it comes to audio system stuff. Now I have a Toyota RAV4 with 12v standard 12v plug-in with 120W output. I couldnt find anything on the amperage, unfortunately. I currently have a Centrios 5.1 45W surround sound system which has been plugged into my computer through standard PC speaker-like plug-ins. They came with the system. What I would like to do is get a 2.1 system with slightly higher wattage and plug it in to my Ipod. Now my problem is im not sure if using a 12v DC to 120V AC converter on the car would run a 50-90W system at full capacity? And how do you tell when you are about to blow your speakers, cause I worry about pushing my current system to full capacity?

Also, the reason for which I want this system plugged into the car like that is because I want to be able to take it out of the car and into a building to plug into a standard 120V AC outlet for breakdancing purposes.

Thanks for reading through all that newbie garbabe!:D Haha.

Cheers,

Chris

A power inverter of sufficient rating should have no problems at all driving that setup. The question I would have is why you wouldn't just plug it into your car stereo. There are tons of ways to get your iPod or other portable MP3 player into your car system. Then, use the speakers when you need them other places.

If you want to run the speakers outside of the car, but still powered off the car, then perhaps consider building a speaker box that plugs into a car amplifier. You will be able to integrate that right into your car system seamlessly, and, if properly built, can be moved on long wires outside of the vehicle as well.

The quality of sound comming out of the speaker system is the car is garbage. Also, I want to be able to bring a decent sized sound system from the car into a gym I go to weekly for breakdancing. I dont have the money for a new car audio system so I figure this option will suit my situation better.

I also just realized that as long as the car wattage output can supply the system it will run off the car(since Voltage x amperage = wattage, and 120V is supplied which is what it needs, and 120W is enough output, the amperage will be fine), so I know this will work.

Thanks for the help!
