Awesome AJ,
That was very helpful. I am sure the SVS are good, but a few others were really starting to suggest those infinity's.

If you don't mind:
If I go with the P362, a matching center (forgot the model #), why the wharfdale's (and which ones)?
Not the Infinity P162 surrounds?

Also, I don't think I am EVER going to get to enjoy the full capability of any sub I get with little one in the house (not to mention, wife).

I just wanted to ensure I got a quality pair of subs to adequately provide a good low end in this size livingroom attached to kitchen.

I could find other ways to tend to the towers, so a single sub is still a option. After all the debate, everyone has said to go with either the SVS (expensive), a ED A2-300, or the BIC would suffice?

The Primus towers are pretty capable speakers, you might consider just skipping the sub and run them as full range speakers. By themselves, they don't sound bad at all, and you may decide you don't need a subwoofer after all. If you do decide to get a sub, it might be wise to settle on a down-firing design, so your kid doesn't get too curious about the cone and destroy it. The Elemental Designs A2-250, A2-300, or the Hsu STF2 or VTF1 are some decent down-firing subs that aren't enormously expensive.

Because the WH-2's are purpose built, meant to be wall mounted, surrounds - bipolar to create a more spacious, diffuse sound, white to blend into your decor better, etc,etc,etc.....and $80...per pair.
The front channels are what you want as closely matched as possible, sonics wise.

The BIC would certainly suffice. As would a single Earthquake, or two Daytons...all in the $240-$275 range. The twin Daytons would of course function as your anti tip devices...and add nice symmetry to the layout...I big on aesthetics, especially when inexpensive as well. ;)

cheers,

AJ

Ok, so if I am "willing" to spend a bit extra,
You would be okay with either the P162 surrounds or the wharfedale diamond10 surrounds?

If you mainly plan to use the surrounds to watch movies then those little WH-2 surrounds aren't a bad choice at all for small to medium room. You just need walls to the left and right of your seating position to mount them on. No they aren't as good of a speaker as the P162 or P152 but they are small, inexpensive, are rated 80-20,000hz, and a diffuse sound is great with movies. I still have a pair that I used to use in my bedroom. Even if you outgrow them later you can always recycle them for use as surrounds in your bedroom.

If your main goal for surrounds is to to watch 5.1 channel concert DVDs and concert Blu-Rays then I'd use the same brand as the mains that you settle on. That's when a good match with your mains really comes into play as the music and other concert sounds move around you. So if you go with the P362 then I'd use the P162 or P152. Again that's for music.

For the subwoofer I would stick with a product that is rated down to at least 20hz. Remember ratings tend to be optimistic. A bit lower is better. Generally a ported sub will roll off rapidly below their rated frequency response. Some of the eDs will go down to 18hz and even though that's below human hearing you can feel it. You need to figure out cubic footage including adjoining rooms and hallways before anybody can size a sub.

I don't believe in spending more to get less....but it's your money, I advise...you spend it. :)
