That's what I had at work until it died, which is how the JBLs ended up in it's place. Was about $150 RCA/5 CD changer around 2004 from Kmart, with detachable speakers. It lasted 12 years of pretty much continuous use. It was fun and certainly loud enough with reasonably low distortion for popular/rock music. I'd do it again.
I didn't look up his JVC until just now....was thinking of the small stacks of components rather than a boom box type.

,,,Tried boom boxes but they tend to die early when subjected to the rigors of off road travel and camping... (I have to pack pressurized drinks separately to keep the cans from wearing holes in each other during trips)
made do with several brands of small wired speakers with various 12 volt and 110 volt inverter powered amps (at one time or another).
...finally have settled on tunes stored in my phone providing signal to blue tooth speakers....the sound isn't great or even good; but its tunes...
