Compact HT Speaker Package

I have a small living room which doesn't really allow 5.1 surround. I can probably get away with a 3.1 system. Looking to get a decent entry level system to go with my hi-def TV. Would like it to be sleek and compact--something that can be wall mounted and not stick out much more than the flat panel TV.
I've looked at the AV123's, a little too big.

It appears the Onkyo 606 would be a good receiver, just not sure on the to monitors, center channel, and sub.

Suggestions?

Thanks!

In addition to traditional speakers and speaker packages, you may also want to look a bit into the following:

1. All-in-one speaker bars (the link here just provides some examples from Crutchfield)

2. In-wall speakers, which would give you the flushness that you're looking for (this link here is once again just for examples from Crutchfield)

I'm not pushing Crutchfield at all. They were just an easy way of showing some examples. :)

As for subwoofers, do you have a size limitation, how large is your room, and what is your budget?

Regarding the sub...
The room is 10 x 12. I have a couple areas that could fit either an 8" or 10" sub. Budget is about $500 for a 3.1 speaker package.

Any suggestions on in-wall speakers?

What's the matching center speaker with those EMP's? Can I just use a third one as a center?

Yes you can use a third as a center. It would make for a perfect, and seamless front.

Just trying to mix it up a bit, my friend. :)

Budget is about $500 for a 3.1 speaker package.
...suggest any subs in the $300 - $400 range?
Just want to make sure that your sub budget is $300-$400. Those EMPs will eat up about $300 of your original $500 budget.

For a 10x12 room, we can certainly hook you up in that price range. I'm just waiting for Mazer to post a link to a Dayton sub from PartsExpress (unless he has already while I'm typing this). :D

Haha. I saw Mazer recommending the Dayton subs all over the forum :) He apparently thinks very highly of them.

Yeah, $200 - $300 for the sub, and $300 for the front is right around my range.

Now who's mixing it up, Mazer? ;)

Nice. I'd seen you talk about the Cadence before, but I didn't know which way you'd go today. :D

tyreal78, the Daytons get good reviews, and I was just kidding around about Mazer recommending them. Others sure seem to like them, too. There are a number of subs out there in the $200-$300 range. For a room your size, you don't need a behemoth of a sub to do a decent job, IMO. You could also audition some of the "big brand" subs from Best Buy and Circuit City, such as Polk and Infinity. They get a bad rap around here sometimes, but there's plenty of people that like them. The great thing about those is that you can always try them in your room and then take them back if you don't like them.

Mazer wouldn't steer you wrong, though. I know nothing about Cadence, but I'll bet that it's a good sub.

Are you stating that the subs listed are not good subs?

I didn't know you owned a SVS PB10.
