Comcast must be feeling the heat.

I had the exact same experience as the OP. Nice call, got rates droped, next bill was higher than rates before they agreed to lower them. I called. Refused to speak to anyone but a manager and then just lost it. I ended up with the lower rate I was promised and more premium content. I'll be in the same soup again soon though, as it was a one year deal. My bill will skyrocket if I don't head it off at the pass.

I don't mind negotiating in general, but the time it takes to deal with Comcast and their system is truly (and I'm sure intentionally) frustrating. I'd like to see fixed rates and no promos or specials. Won't ever happen. Maybe competition will though...some day.

Heh, I've been calling in to cancel my service once the introductory period expires for years now.

I'm currently paying $107 a month for internet and an HD plus package, which normally is about $140.

Seriously, I have no life.
I actually do have the HDC model, and as it turns out, I just got my first bill recently that has gone above what I had normally been paying, so I guess it's time for me to make that call as well. I do agree about the discreet on/off IR codes, that is something I really would like, especially with the harmony one.
It doesn't matter which remote is used, EVERYTHING should have discreet commands.

BTW- if you go into settings, look for something like "Numeric Power On" (you may need to go into 'More Settings'). That lets you use a channel command to turn the TV on. Make sure to leave some delays to get it to turn on correctly. That way, you don't have to waste money by leaving it on all the time or deal with the frustration of it going out of synch because of their "Turn off if no commands are received for XX hours".

I just call when I see that the bills have reached Ludicrous speed and beat the crap out of them for whatever I can get. I did it with TW until they just became evil (a long time ago), did it with AT&T wireless and did it when I forst signed up for DirecTV. When I got the ad for 4 receivers and free install, I called and asked what else they had. They added free HBO/Skinamax for 6 months, a free DVD player (I didn't need it bit it has come in handy a few times) and a $10/month discount for 15 months. Yelling and screaming don't work but making them realize that having/not having whatever they're selling isn't a life & death matter.
