Color for wall behind LCD TV

Hey guys,

I did a few searches on this and didn't come up with very good info. We are moving to a new house in a couple of months and I will be mounting our 52" LCD TV on the wall. The interior of the house will be painted a light beige color, (I believe it's called Killim Beige or something like that from Sherwin Williams), with white trim. I was thinking of painting the wall that the TV is on a darker brown. I assumed that having a dark color behind the TV would make it stand out, but I've read quite a few things that say you should use a neutral gray for behind the TV. Well that isn't an option because I don't see gray going well with beige walls.

Further complicating matters is the fact that the wall the TV is going on is a short angled wall that is the stairway to the 2nd floor, so you can see the wall behind it.

So I assume I will have to paint that other wall as well, otherwise you will be looking at a dark brown angled wall with a light brown wall behind it. I suppose it could make a nice contrast, but I don't know. I guess I could just paint the one wall and see how it looks.

What do you guys think?

Ask Dawg....he's into all that dainty home decorating stuff.....he could probably suggest some great colors too like "toasted butter nut cream", or "brown sexy time explosion". :)

A nice contrasting brown would be ok since browns are neutral.

Probably not super helpful, but I'm working on our basement and was going to paint the whole thing a dark brown. Then we though we might be moving sometime soonish, so went beige (Glidden Whispering Wheat) to keep it neutral. Then it looked like we won't be moving, so instead of repainting everything I did the tv wall a dark brown (Glidden Walnut Bark).

I like how it looks, but it's going to be about another month before it's finished and the tv is down there, so I won't be able to to say for sure if I did the right thing or not for a bit yet. However, I will say repainting isn't that big of a deal (unless you do a burgundy), especially on one wall. You could paint it brown, and if you don't like it paint it back to the original (might need to prime first to hide the brown completely). I don't think the angled wall behind it is a big deal, the wall next to it will be beige too anyway, it might flow and add some architectural interest or something, whatever that means...

Hehe

Can you take a picture of the current color and post it. Also a picture of whatever trim/woodwork is in that area would be helpful as well. IMO if you have more neutral earth tone type colors you can usually get away with just about any color or shade in the same category.

Unfortunately the house is still being built. I don't think they've even painted the inside yet. I'm just trying to get things settled before we move in. I'm hoping I can decide on a paint color and just buy some paint and bring it to KB and have them do the painting. I mean they're gonna paint the wall anyway.

Not yet, kind of waiting for the big reveal after 8 months in the making...but I can take one of that wall if you'd like. The walls are painted (need to do some touch up yet), ceiling is done (white), molding is on (maple). We have white doors, so I'll try to include that too so you can kind of see how the white goes with the colors.

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it, and just go with the color that looks best for living. One could* argue that it's the other walls that would benefit more from a darker color.

Just stick with the same Killim Beige or whatever. When you watch TV with the lights off, note how the room brightens up during brighter scenes. It's probably the sidewalls that brighten up the most, but you tell me. In any case, the brightness of your front wall will be highly dependent on the reflections from the other walls. The TV's light is going away from the front wall, IOW. If instead, this is not so much about maximizing contrast, but immersion, my first instinctual worry has to with the light reflections off the speakers/subs/gear themselves, and not so much the front wall. Cheers.

That's a little darker brown than I was envisioning, but your walls look to be pretty much the same color that ours will be. Thanks for the pic.
