The more I look at my acoustic panels the more I wonder if they should have black frames to match all the other black gear.

Let me hear your opinions.

Leave as is?

Do a black stain?

Have them redone in a piano black high gloss?

I think the piano black would look best but you could do the black stain first and if that is glossy enough it may be enough. Either way I think the black would be better.

Where would I take them for the piano gloss finish?

What about Home Depot or Lowes?

I think Piano Black would look GREAT as well.

Just take it to Sherman Williams and ask for the high gloss black lacquer they sell it's about $35 a gallon. Talk to the manager and have them tell you how to use it. You will just have to put down one (maybe two coats) with slight high grit sanding after the first and then sanding and buffing after the second. It will probably take you 3 hours including dry time and look professional. Not a real piano finish, but the cheater method that most use including speaker companies because it is very easy and saves time and money...

Just not sure you want so much black in there. I like the way it blends right now.:)

I would suggest possibly considering no frames at all, if you can swing that. If possible stretch some fabric around the edges on all sides, fasten it down good and snug and let them really blend into the wall behind your gear, where you really want your visual focus to be kept. Just my opinion though. :)

It seems to be a strange mix of colors as it is. I was thinking all black would look better.

I had frameless ones up there at one point but decided I liked the frames better. I will pull the frames and take pictures so you can see what you think.

I agree with Mtrycrafts.
Before I scrolled the pic down, (only saw top half) and saw the wood floor, rug, and also the couch.; I thought black sounds good.
After seeing the whole room; they look good with the wood floor.

I think it's going to be a lot of black. I'd stick with the way it is. I remember the no frames and I didn't like that much either. Anyway you can paint that wall a darker color? Then everything may blend in better.

Here is without frames. To me it just looks unfinished.

We are actuall thinking of painting the whole house in a draker color so maybe I should just wait and see if I like them better after that.

I think my main concern is Thanksgiving. We will have 25 family members over who will think I have lost my mind, turning my livingroom into a HT room.

After this pic I definately think it is better with the frames and if you are going to paint them I say the color that Andrew suggested is the way to go.

I like it the way it is ... but if you want to black the way to do it would be with Tint. Sand the frames down to bare wood, brush or spray with some black tint like Trans-Tint. Then add a bit of the tint to your brushing lacquer as well. That'll give you a nice black color but the woodgrain will still show, almost like grayscale wood.

I'd go with the black. But not the piano gloss. Too distracting when the lighting hits it just right.

Just 2 cents.
