the speakers i built for the mains consist of vifa 1" tweeters and 7" mids. both purchased from parts express, with the mids being an infinity buyout IIRC. i need to build better crossovers for them (only have a cap on the tweets at the moment and nothing on the mids). they do sound nice, but could use more bass (was told this may be an issue cause i only have one mid on each speaker, but my reciever couldnt handle a 4 ohm load). all in all, they do sound very nice for only paying around $100 for the pair.
on my pc, i have the famous 3" tb w3-871. they are some of the best speakers i've ever built and only came to $50 for the pair. they are running off my cambridge soundworks pc speaker setup (as the mains) and the lows are taken care of the sub that came in the CS package. i actually built my parents a HT setup with these speakers and they are very pleased (not audiophiles, but wanted nice sound in a small package). $200 for 5 speakers complete was money well spent on 'em.
i wouldnt mind trying to build some nice TL front speakers and have a complete matching set (same drivers in all) for a 6.1 setup.
as for the reciever, i already ordered it and its being delivered sat. its got all the features i could want (including pre-outs on all channels). i got it off ebay after i got sent a non-working Yamaha htr-5560 (which was very nice, but useless for previously stated reasons). the yammy was looking to be too expensive to fix and i'm awaiting a settlement with ebay/paypal over the damaged goods. i have a DIY 6-channel amp almost built (based on the gainclone amps) that may power the system.
