Can someone explain the theory behind Coax cabling and different Hz ratings for different sources.

I know that regular analog cable was fine with RG59 cable up to 550mhz and digital cable requires RG-6 coax rated at 1Ghz of bandwidth to get optimal performance. Now that HD is here it requires up to 3Ghz bandwidth and beyond to get the best out of it. Trouble is that most splitters and cable in your home is rated below 1Ghz and the cable companies won't tell you that it is not optimal.

Since I am now running a calibrated 720pHD D-ILA set I want to upgrade my in house lines to Coax and splitters that support 3Ghz and beyond.

What is the optimal coax sweep range for an HD broadcast on cable TV? Shouldn't the coax cable and splitters at least match the bandwidth of the signal?

I am kind of confused on the subject, but if seems important.

Thanks
