Clipping pre-amp outs, fact or fiction?

I keep hearing people talk about mainly the sub out form the receiver having the possibility to clip the signal.

I have the Denon AVR-3805 and DVD-2200 connected via optical. With the sub output at the receiver set at 0db, is it possible that the receiver will clip the low voltage signal going to the sub, or is there plenty of headroom in the receivers signal path to make this a non-issue.

Has anyone confirmed this clipping with an oscilloscope or other equipment?

cheers :)

two things.

First, the optical cable has no bearing on the issue.

Second, I've never heard of any problems with ithe LFE output being overdriven but you have control over the level of the LFE signal being sent to the sub.

If it does clip then that's between you and your receiver's LFE level settings. Turn it down at the receiver and up at the sub. Problem solved...

I realize using a digital connection has no bearing on the issue, I was just establishing my setup from source to output. What may increase the chances of pre-amp clipping(if any) is if I used analogue from the player to the receiver and had the players sub channel level set at +10db(which is the case when listening to DVD-A)

Maybe I should have been clearer in my first post, I have never heard any kind of clipping with this setup, so I'm not looking for a fix. But I'm wanting to find out if there is the possibility of such a thing to happen and has anyone tested this

cheers:)
