cleaning keyboard ?

i am looking for tips & don'ts on cleaning a keyboard. mine is getting pretty dusty, along with mis other crap(food ?) that has fallen on it.

I turn mine upside down and bang it on the table till all the cigarette ashes and food falls out. So far so good, no problem and still working fine.

Stick it in the dishwasher - then let it sit for a couple of days to dry out

We used to do that with old keyboards and never had any problems, I wonder if you can still do that...

Depending on the keyboard, the keys can sometimes be removed so you can clean underneath them. Just be careful that you don't take them all off at once, so you dont have to figure out where they all go lol. Or you could use some compressed air and shoot it in between the keys. You could also use something damp like a clorox wipe to get anything off the keys that are stuck to the surface. Is it just a standard keyboard? Or a keyboard like the Optimus Maximus?

I use compressed air and a swiffer duster. If there's a bunch of crap down inside I shake it upside down. I use an old toothbrush and rubbing alchohol to remove any gunk that doesn't come off with the other methods.

If it's a desktop keyboard, you can most likely remove each individual key. Some of them (space bar, enter key...) are a little more tricky to put back in because they are spring loaded with a different spring than the little keys (numbers/letters).

When I'm not able to disassemble the keyboard, I use compressed air and a damp cloth to wipe each key clean.

Always make sure you disconnect the keyboard first...

thanx guys.

after reading this, i got a flash of genius. sprayed some 4in1 cleaner on it & wiped it off. all is good. there is some little crap down in there, so i will find a brush and get that later.

Keep a cover on it when it's not in use and you can seriously cut down on the amount of filth buildup.

Dissasemble it... Remove the rubbery circuit board piece... Throw the plastic in the dishwasher
