Cleaned up my system some

Well, after my new puppy got into my mess of wires i decided to clean them all up since the new receiver is coming anyhow. Used to have a lot of wires, not i am slimmed down.

Before:
DVD-Receiver:
5.1ch analog output
2ch analog output
Coaxial Digital Output
S-video

Satellite:
S-vid
2 ch analog

Receiver:
S-vid to TV
Coax from computer
Sub cable
5 channels line level

NOW:
DVD:
S-vid
Optical

Sat:
S-vid
2ch analog

Receiver:
S-vid
Coax from computer
Sub Cable
5 ch line level

And with all this, i went ahead and wire loomed all the wires, ziptied everything into place, hid the cables.

Another thing i did was cut the speaker clip pins off the monster speaker wire and run bare 12 guage into the speakers as well as the receiver end of the wire (still waiting to see how well this works with the new AVR). I then moved the shelves down an additional 8 inches to allow more ventillation for the new receiver and also moved if from the bottom base shelf to the top shelf for better heat transfer. I just hope the cheap MDF board with 4 small pins will hold it up at a whopping 40 + pounds. Might have to go back to the bottom... But all in all, i can not wait to get home from work to put the new receiver in. Took a vac tomorrow just to stay home and play with it. :D

Bored at work, just thought i would share my accomplishments, though small, should be very effective.

Good work, but it is time to upgrade to a nice progressive scan or upscalling DVD player with component or HDMI video output. I have been happy with my Oppo Digital universal player. You might also consider HD-DVD with the current prices and promotions.

I agree with JCPanny... once you're able to make the switch over to HDMI most of the cable mess starts to take care of itself. My cable box, PS3, and upscaling DVD player use a grand total of 3 cables to hook over to my receiver, then it's just a 4th HDMI to the tv, the speaker wire and the sub cable. Makes things a lot less messy!
