If your system MSRPs for $1800, you may need to go around $5000 to get any noticeable improvement. IHO, $600 to a $1000 more buys you jack sh?t improvement.
BOLOGNA

The Mackie's and the Strata Mini's I recommended would be a big improvement over what he has in sound quality. And he wouldn't have to spend $5000.

Sweet. How much?
(I notice the power amp is on the bottom of the stack. Doesn't that create heat issues?)
If I am up-to-date, that stack with the RB-1080 200x2 amp would retail for $2400 but could be had for much less. I don't know about heat. The whole front of the amp is an aluminum heat sink, which is why it looks different from the other units. Plus there is lots of ventilation on the sides as well as the top. It might be fine to run it stacked like that. Sure looks good, though.

Patience is a virtue, but not a virtue that I possess. My Mirage Omni 350s arrive Tuesday, and the waiting is driving me nuts!:(
(The hardest part is deciding whether or not to listen to the 150s between now and then, as this could reduce the impact of the transition.)

I got them, and all I can say is wow. I never imagined that anyone with my budget could ever hope to afford speakers this good. They sound as if they should cost at least $10K. The bass, in particular, is not only subwoofer deep but incredibly tight and punchy. The already amazing imaging of the 150s is enhanced even further, easily turning my 1600 cu ft room into a 600,000 cu ft concert hall.
Even if you already have good speakers, you owe it to yourself to hear these.

If it were me, I'd get PSB Synchrony One with a Parasound pre amp/amp combo. I have not heard the PSB's but they are the only speakers I can think of right now that I would buy without auditioning (provided I could return them). I highly doubt I would be disappointed with them.

The speakers are a done deal. The problem with Parasound is that I want all my electronics to match, and they don't make a CD player (that I know of.) Pretty much settled on the TEAC Reference DR-H300 at this point.

Thank you, I think I will. (Especially now that I have upgraded to NAD electronics also.:))
