Cineversum BlackWing MK2011 First Look

Cineversum has released MK2011 versions of their BlackWing One, Two, and Three. Sporting 3D with active glasses, motorized zoom, focus, and lens shift (vertical and horizontal), individually calibrated for D65, and up to 100,000:1 contrast ratio, there is a lot to like. Add in the proprietary internal video processor/scaler that adapts for wide range of film and video cadences plus enhances the input signal and removes video noise, ultra quiet operation (<19dB), and optional motorized anamorphic CineTwist kit for Cinemascope, 2.35:1 viewing and we are talking about an installer's dream. The fact that prices start at $9600 shouldn't surprise anyone.

Are those original products or just repackaged JVC projectors? I can understand if they are new, wanting to get some good information out to people for some choices, but a number of companies have effectively rebadged JVC models and called it their own at twice the price.

Not sure on what planet that makes sense if that's what they do.

Would like to get some more information, and wonder, even then, if it makes sense considering that JVC already has a very solid product out there with those specs.

Calibrated to what screen? White? Grey? Gain. I believe all of those variables will offset the screen color calibration. Maybe to have the screen calibration match the factory you would have to purchase their (re-branded) screen too?

Rebadged JVC alllllll the way. We looked at the brand a few years ago and foind out that it's all 100% JVC except for the different looking case. There was an AVS forum thread about this & the company rep jumped in and got blasted out after his claims were proved bogus.

Also, not sure if they still sell this along with the Black Wing, but Cineversum had a processor that came with the projector..... It was a rebadged DVDO piece (same buttons & everything). I even called DVDO tech support and got bopped up the chain until a senior tech guy on he phone even admited that's what it was. It was a very detailed, honest conversation. He said they change the menus on their prpcessor & send them to Cineversum. Nothing was technically different about the processor but the 4x cost.

Dreamvision does the same thing on many of their models as does Faroudja/Meridian. Pioneer Elite's projector was the same as well. The products are all 100% rebadged JVC.

Just needs to be said that I appreciate the information provided at Audioholics, but definitely it needs to be pointed out when things are rebadges of certain products which can raise questions of quality.

There is the potential for any product to be improved upon, but we've seen Oppo players rebadged with basically zero quality upgrades, and I'm not sure how JVC projectors could really be upgraded on. Seems more like they picked a good brand and added a good DVDO processor, and just rebadged them. It doesn't add value to the product really, and certainly not at the levels they charge.

So, as long as people know this FIRST, then they can choose to spend (waste?) their money as they choose.
