I'm aware HD-DVD will exist in a while, and I don't even have a digital television. Given that my picture is limited and I'll have to buy another (HD-)DVD player in a few years, I'm really only worried about the audio impact of the DVD player choice I make.
I plan using digital output to my new receiver (leaning towards Yahama RX-V650, though can anyone tell it apart from the HTR-5760?), as my old one was destroyed by lightning. Since audio output from the DVD player (which will also likely be my CD player going forward) is digital, I'm wondering whether the DVD player is processing the audio signal at all, other than perhaps by decompressing it. Do I care about the guts of the DVD player's audio, or will my receiver be doing all the digital-to-analog processing? Is ANY processing happening on the DVD before the digital audio signal leaves it?
I'm happy to pay for good audio, but I'd rather not buy features I'll never use, if the audio processing on the DVD is only for analog output.
Thanks!
