This is a 2.1 system where the speakers have the following built-in.

Power amplifiers - High speed, linear, analogue bipolar, 75 wpc for the tweeters and 250 wpc for the bass drivers.
Preamplifier - High quality state of the art analogue preamplifier with two digital and one analogue input. Control is remote and volume settings are remembered for each separate input.
DAC- Up to the minute 24/192

System also comes with a sealed 10" inch sub.

Price is $2999 but honestly for what you are getting it doesn't seem like a bad deal at all.

Still seems a bit pricey, but you are more or less getting a complete package too. They do look nice though.

I knew the days were numbered before powered loudspeakers showed up for the home audiophile market. This has been going on in the live sound circles for years now. I can see it for live sound, but for the home I still like to pick out my own components.

From what I have read the owner of AVI is all about powered speakers and cheap cables. His vendor recommendation for cables that is on the website is a place like blue jeans but in the UK. He seems to be very anti audio snake oil.

Yep. With a package like this, they are basically telling you what they think sounds best. That may work for you and it may not, so auditioning the total package is still a must. Without knowing more, I'd say it sounds like they have made some reasonable choices so it would need some actual listening to say how the system works as a whole.

Add three more channels and you've got yourself one expensive HTiB. Not knocking the idea, but 3k for some nice bookshelves, amps, pre-amp and a 10" sub? For 3k I could shop till I drop picking out combos like that.

If you want powered speakers for that kind of money, i'd rather the M&K S-150P. :)

I don't know.

What happens if the power amp or preamp or DAC fails INSIDE the speakers?

I guess that's one reason we have separates, right?

I have one power amp in every single speaker/sub for the sub section. And that already makes me nervous sometimes.

I can't imagine having 2 amps + preamp + DACs inside every speaker.

Or 4 amps if the speaker is a 4-way.

If you want great sounding powered speakers, there are plenty of powered studio monitors already (Mackie :) )
