im looking for something cheap to reduce the echo of my sound room. want to put my system in a concrete basment, and please dont recommend some 2000 dollars a slab acoustic material i dont have that kind of money nor am i willing to spend 4 times the cost of my sound system on acoustic stuff. im wondering if Styrofoam insulation will reduce the echo. any ideas?

You can also just mount a rug or some other type of fabric on the wall. It won't be as effective as panels, but it will drop reflections quite a bit.

go to home depot/menards/etc. go in the insulation dept. look by the 4x8' sheets. there is a panel that "looks" to be made from compressed shreaded card board. one side has a black paint(?) on it, the other side is beige . it is soft enough that you could break a piece off real easy. it should be about $8-10 a sheet.

bang for buck. this stuff can't be beat.
