I'm looking for a good receiver with HDMI. Budget is $400 or less. Only 5.1 is needed. I have a Denon 3802 now but need to upgrade to HDMI. Not really sure how many imputs I need. Just a TV and Bluray.

Thanks, Daman

You have a 3802 and you're looking to upgrade(?) to a $400 receiver?
Why do you need HDMI? And what do you plan on using new receiver for?

If you must have HDMI, I would wait just a month or two more for the Yamaha RX-V663. Over that time you can save up just a little more and you might find you can get a higher model such as the RX-V1800. The RX-V663 is going to be a real budget killer loaded with audio features short of a few bass management features we so desperately want (multi-speaker EQs and x-overs).

I was going to move the Denon downstairs. I'm trying to keep the wiring down on the other system. So you don't think HDMI is worth a upgrade? Receiver will be used for TV and Bluray movies with some music.

How much of a budget is needed for a good receiver with HDMI? Maybe I should just save a little more. I'm not in a hurry anyway.

Thanks, Daman

I'm not saying it's not worth it. The RX-V663 is apt to be a very very good HDMI receiver. HDMI can utilize the high resolution audio on the Blu-ray format. The RX-V663 also features preouts, if you need more power if you decide to upgrade your speakers, or just find you need more power. Once you get a power amplifier you can shift it to each new receiver or preamp that you happen to get, keeping that solid power.

I can't see why you would be in a huge hurry, as you still have a receiver. I would wait for the Yamaha or save up for a higher model Denon, Yamaha, Onkyo, Pioneer Elite, etc.

Hey Seth,
I checked out the specs on the RX-V663. Looks like that will work just fine for me. So you say a few more months yet. What do you think street price will be?
