Why don't you start a new thread in the subwoofer section.

Many of us (me, at least) are too lazy to read through this thread to figure out what you currently have, etc.

Tell us what gear you have and what your budget is. Also %HT and %music (as well as type of music if music is your main use).

Thanks!

Hey Manther,

I wish I had a wife that would get me a new sub...:(:(:(

Mine is always telling me that our PSW350 is "powerful enough!"...I'm always like, yeah...right...if you only knew what a good sub is supposed to sound like...

She's actually in my avatar, with her twin sister...

Anyways, is this sub gonna be for the system with the Onkyo 8555? How is that receiver doing, by the way? You still rockin' the Infinity's?

Nice, twins!

Anyway yeah the onkyo 8555 and the infinities. Still just a two channel music system. And the receiver is awesome. We use it every day!

I don't think I've gotten past 60. How about you? I've got tile floors, and stuff so maybe that makes it seem extra loud.
60?!?!?

I rarely get it past 30...

But then again, I'm in a small "loft" in the upstairs of our house, and my wife is normally listening with me and she doesn't care for it blaring...

I'm sending you a PM, manther...please look for it. :)

However, I still would to say - you'll be much better off with towers I mention before...
Forgive me if I'm wrong (I am an owner of the suggested TX-8555) but is the Onkyo not a standalone stereo receiver that would need separate speakers? It's not a "cheap shelf system" as indicated...

This thread was originally created to find a inexpensive shelf system. Somewhere around page 2. I changed directions and decided to buy the Onkyo TX-8555 as suggested.

Ahhhhhh.....

That's what I get for not reading previous pages...

Carry on...:D

BTW -- I love the 8555 I own; very sturdy and all-business build quality and looks, and gobs of raw power. I doubt anyone would need an external amp with this thing, even though there are preouts available...

On the subject of the 8555, would anyone know where I could get a replacement remote cheaper, possibly, than what Shop Onkyo sells it for? It seems our 8555's remote fell one too many times into our dog's water fountain that sits on the side of my recliner in the 2-channel room, as I always rest it on the armrest, and now many functions on the remote stopped working...

I know Shop Onkyo has them for like 22 bucks plus shipping...but is there anywhere else that may be less?

Been enjoying this system for a while now. Love it.
I'm moving to a new house. Going to have a main living room with no tv just some nice couches and a fireplace and this stereo. Been wanting to do something with the bass. The dayton has been awsome. But.. wondering if I can't add a complimentary subwoofer that provides a quick attacking punch element to go along with the deep full bass of this dayton. Any suggestions? (Again good bang for the buck is desired).

Any help would be welcome :^)

I know punchy is a really vague description. So look at it this way. The dayton has this nice warm fuzzy bass to it. And the bigger speakers in my primus's handels a higher range. But something in between would be nice.

Maybe a down firing powered subwoofer? Bigger/smaller? I don't know. But a faster attack is a good way to describe what I'm talking about.

Maybe I just need to learn how to tune my dayton better. However I like the purpose it fills right now.
