Audioholics CES 2012 Coverage is here:

CES 2012 Trade Show Coverage — Reviews and News from Audioholics

There's tons to note, but the LG OLED and Samsung Super OLED displays are pretty hot, as are some of the high-end products and some of the new Ultrabooks that are looking more and more like MacBook Airs (which makes you wonder what the next Apple laptop will look like!)

CES hashtag is #CES2012 and our Twitter feed is @audioholicslive which we're pretty active on...

I'm not there but the two stories that have caught my eye so far are the announcement of slightly (1.9MM) thicker Droid Razr Maxx smartphone with a 3300mAh battery and 21 hours of talk time vs the Razr's 1780mAh battery. And a not yet released 7" Asus quad-core tablet with a rumored price of $250. The main reason I haven't upgraded from my old Droid X is the new Razr had a too small non replaceable battery. The new version might tempt me. :D I have no interest in 10" tablets yet 7" seems a tad small so there was no way I'd pay $200 for a crippled Amazon Fire or $400 for a non-crippled competitor but I may give serious thought to a 7" quad-core for $250. Somehow a 16oz full featured Android 4 tablet with an 8" display for around $300 seems like the sweet spot but I could live with a $250 7".

The Verge has pretty good CES coverage although their graphics heavy site is always slow.

Hey Sholling,

thanks for the comments! Have been there 6 years in a row, but not came back since 2009... anyway I've also read that there are some prety slim OLED TV's from Sammy & LG, among other things though.

You mean Sharp's? Unless LG also had a Super-Hi Vision LCD on display.

Either way, I'd be happy with 7,680 x 4,320 :D

Two things I'm keeping an eye on

My favorite thing is the OLED TVs. OLED has been around for a while now but is finally a decent size. Right now they're pretty expensive ($8-10,000) but I'm sure prices will drop soon enough. I love that They're now able to turn off some of the pixels to give deeper blacks.

Anyone a fan of the Google Wallet? I'll be watching that one though it probably won't become a movement for a few years, esp because the security aspect of it is demanding. Best thing is I already have Sprint. ;) One day, I'm not going to carry a wallet, just my phone...

From that article:
"The key differences between the 75-inch Samsung TV and the 84-inch LG telly are that the LG model isn't LED-based and has a much higher resolution, with a 4K panel. It also uses LG's passive 3D technology to display 3D video without flicker, using simple, lightweight, comfortable glasses."

4K is not super hi-vision/ultra high definition. 4K/QFHD is 3840 x 2160, 8K/SHV/UHDTV is 7680 × 4320.

It's entirely possible the terminology has changed and people are calling 4K Ultra HD now or whatever, but it's still 4K compared to SHV's 8K :)

Samsung Smart Window

I found this on Android Central, it's not Android related or AV related but it's too cool not to share. Oh and for those interested the Droid Razr Maxx is supposed to be out on Verizon the 26th.

Wow!! That is amazing!! I love that the light behind the window/screen doesn't affect the visibility of the apps or video. The one question I have is that since she said it's one-sided and people on the other side can't see what is on the screen, can they see through the 'blinds'?

That's a good question and I guess we'll have to wait a few months for the answer. The only places I can see using something like that are perhaps the kitchen window, but more likely a bathroom mirror or glass wall in a shower stall but I'm a taste deprived male that's totally lacking the decorating gene. ;)

but more likely a...glass wall in a shower stall but...
Oh, man...shower p**n. You know it's going to happen. :D

Btw, that glass reminds of something that I've wanted for a while (but never enough to actually get it) - which is that active fogging privacy glass. That's some cool stuff, too.
