center speaker height relevance ?

I've seen that same comment about how we hear. But when there is a large screen in the mix, in every setup I've heard with the center above that large screen, it just sounds wrong. It just places the center too high.
With my center below the screen, and tilted back, it usually sounds about right.

I put mine just above the screen

I had a simialr situation when I added a CLR3000 which is a heavy center speaker ( I think 55 lbs).

A normal shelve did not work or barely worked because it flexed and touched the top of the TV. I braced it and everything is great now and the speaker just above the TV sounds very natural. Mine was a little easier to brace than some because I have the main part of my HT inside an Armoire and therefore it was easy to add a stained 2x4 shelf brace and not have it show!.

Good Luck.

Similar issue, any thoughts?

This is an issue I also am experiencing. I have a cabinet in which my tv rest, wherein my center and two mains all are directly above the tv, by about 1-2 feet. However, that places them all 7 feet off of the ground, and I listen at about 3-4 feet on my couch. Should I tilt them to direct them towards my listening position? I am using paradigm mini monitors, so tilting would require some sort of shelf, brace, etc. If so any recommendations.

Should I be concerned that they are up that high, or grouped literally with 4 inches between the center and mains?

I don't like speakers more than 6' above the floor, I believe its better to have them as close to ear level (when seated) as possible. I also prefer to have the center just below the screen.
If you have the option of placing them lower, try it. Then use which ever position you think sounds the best.

I also think that the speakers should be lower. However, that will not pass the wife test. Any thoughts about directing, bracing, etc.?

Yes, they should be angled down, firing to seated ear level.

Pictures of Center speaker on shelf above TV

Here are some pictures of my CLR3000 center speaker on a shelf above the TV. I braced the shelf with a 2x4 to support the weight. I stained the 2x4 mahogany color, but you can't see it nayway.

Built into an Amoire with 7002s at each side. The HT system came out pretty clean looking :)
