I recently bought 2 Def Techs BP7004's as my fronts.

I ordered a def tech CLR2300BLA center speaker but it seems to be out of stock.

Any suggestions for a knock out main center speaker? My price range is between $600-$1000.

Thanks.

This place has pretty good Def Tech prices:

Here is your center speaker at Best Buy for $649.98

I would keep trying to get the CLR2300BLA, the Def Tech center speakers are awesome.

Good luck,

Clr2500

Well, going "by the book", the CLR2500 (5.25" woofers/1" tweeter) would be recommended for the BP7004s (5.25" woofers/1" tweeters).

Of course, that's just a general guideline. A CLR3000 or CLR2300 would also work just fine.

Here is a CLR2500 for $600:

However, I would go to Best Buy and have them price match that.

If your Panny happens to be wall mounted, and is so about 4.5 ft or higher, then get another Bp7004.

Nothing could be a better match. Even height/pans. Better off-axis response. Fits in budget.

Even if the scenario is not quite conducive, I would consider changing it so that you can have 3 identical speakers. As long as the height of display is not way too high, the benefits in audio are pretty darn large, cumulatively speaking.

Would there be any downside in getting the CLR3000 as opposed to the 2300?

I cancelled my BestBuy order (none in stock) and am looking to order the center elsewhere.

Thanks in advance.

Go for the CLR3000 , You won't regret it!!

It has bigger speakers than your 7004s.

The CLR3000 : two 6 1/2", one 1" and one 10"

The 7004: two 5 /14", two 1" and one 10"

However, I matched a CLR3000 up with 7002s which also only have 5 1/4' and it sounds very good, outstanding ,excellent.

If you can afford it and have a shelf that will support it ( 55 lbs.) it would sound awesome with your 7004s.

They say to match the fronts and centers to maintain timbre ( That is why the recommndation to get a third 7004 is another excellent recommendation). Even though it is bigger, more robust than the center recommended for 7004 towers, the timbre matches well and you will be very please.

Good Luck,

MidCow2

P.S.- The only downside I have found is if I let the automatic setup set levels, the CLR3000 overpowers the front 7002 towers. I find if I back it down a little if sounds perfect, especailly great with movies, vocal and dialog.

P.S.S- The is one center speaker that even makes other speaker fanboys cry because it sogood!

As much as I'd love to get a third 7004, the front middle would placed in a nook which would accomodate a smaller speaker as opposed to the tall 7004's.

With my Denon AVR-2809CI receiver I know that the Audyssey MultEQ will recognize the setup of individual speakers and adjust them accordingly to room size and arrangement. I'm assuming that this receiver option would help if I were to buy a CLR3000 with the 7004's.

Yes, that is true. Even so you might have to manully adjust the CLR3000 level down a tad; but not big deal ;)

The Audyssey MultEQ will give you a great starting point and then you can tweak it to your own sound preferences. Another good device to set the sound is to invest in a SPL meter.

Good Luck,

Thanks for the input. Are there any SPL meters you suggest over others? I quickly searched on-line and found one at Radio Shack for $50.

Do you have a link (or advice) on how to properly use on? I'm a bit of a newbie and wonder if it is super technical or something a novice could operate with relative ease.

Thanks again for all your help.

I use a $60 Galaxy Audio Digital SPL meter (0.5 dB Increments) and I love it (compared to my old Radio Shack Analog), but that's just me.:D I recommend it.

Did you ever look at the CLR2500 Center speakers?
