I have a few options for a center channel.
First, I have a older (4 or 5 years old) Sony 675 receiver, Polk Audio R40's for fronts, some large Sony's (12" woofer, 3 ways) for rear surrounds.

I have a piece of crap center channel.

I am considering either a Polk Audio CS2 (for a GREAT price).
Also on my short list is a B&W VM1 and Def Tech Pro Cinema 1

Any recommendations?

It's a good idea to have the front three channels voice matched so that things like pans from left to center to right sound seamless. So given that, the Polk should be the front-runner. It may not be exactly the same as the fronts but it is more likely to be similar than a center channel from an entirely different company.

Your front three speakers (Left, Right Mains, and Center) should all be the same speaker for the best Timbre Match. If this can't be done then a center channel with the same drivers as your mains is the next best thing.

I had trouble finding a center that blended well with my mains. I tried phantom center instead, and found that I preferred it. I haven't used a center speaker since. (I always sit in the sweet spot, though.)
