.....SMM, I really don't think you'd be disappointed with the sub just where you're planning, and in my opinion, I believe your wife is probably right, no matter whether the sub is down or front firing, but especially if the sub is front firing....SOLID sub content down to 35-40 is good stuff, Sir, if the sub puts out good sound quality with a good flat response down to an "honest" 35hz....the back of the room could be an option for down firing, but either firing, I would put it right where you are planning....hey, get the sub and try different positions....that's really about all any of us can do, and have done.....
