Hi,
Has anybody tried the follwoing configuration.
Instead of using either regular monopoles or dipoles or bipoles but center channels for surrounds ( left and right ) and surround backs in 7.1 configuration. Since center channels have similar frequency range as regualr surround speakers and if they are placed horzontally like center channel on the sides and back, would it sound good?

I am just looking for some creative and new ways to get good sound. If you have some ideas please feel free to share.
Thanks.

I wonder why the designers with a whole lot of brain power and $$$ at their disposal didn't think of this approach? ;)

You should stick with what works best, designs form those in the know IMO :)

For now unhook one of your mains and hook up your current center to it. Play some music in 2 channel and see how it performs and if you like its ability being used as something other then a center.

Cam,
Took your advice and tried it. In fact it did sound good. Obviuosly not as good as my front speaker but good for a Center speaker. I have Athenas AS-F2 and AS-C1. But the only proble is that I do not have more than 1 Center speaker like any other person so am not able to epxeriment the rest of the channels. Thus was hoping if some curious person had tried it and wrote about it.
Regards.

I have energy rc-10s as fronts and surrounds, with a energy veritas v-mini-c as a surround rear. I'm thinking of getting another for a 7.1.. Have been searching to see if anyone has tried this. And I don't know how to create a thread to see if anyone has tried this as well. I think the veritas v-mini-c can be used as a L/R so why not a SBL/SBR
