Cellestion Ditton 33 Question

A friend of mine has a pair of these speakers that he acquired a couple of years ago. They worked fully at the time. He had no place to use them until now and in hooking them up, we noticed that the tweeter was not playing. We ran test tones to each speaker and the mid and low range on one speaker were not playing the tones at nearly the same level as the other speaker. They sounded as though they had been covered with a pillow.

The speakers were likely not stored in a proper location, and were likely submitted to a fairly large amount of humidity through a couple of damp and hot Virginia summers.

Since there is an issue with all three drivers, is it possible that this is an electronics issue, or is it likely that that environmental conditions have affected the drivers themselves? Could an issue with the tweeter affect the signal that the other two drivers are getting?

Does anyone know of avenues to pursue replacement parts for Cellestion speakers? These were built in 1977.

Unfortunately you are out of luck. KEF and Celestion have been owned for quite a few years now by Gold Peak Industries of Hon Kong. They trashed Celestion a long time ago, and are well on their way to trashing KEF. Celestion speakers are now total junk. On recent listening test my friend and I reviewed recent offerings in the KEF range and were appalled.

The old Ditton series as with most of the Celestion range in the late 70 and 80s had very good and unique tweeters. They had a cone voice coil attachment that was unique. Unfortunately over time many of these tweeter have failed from corrosion problems. No parts are available except eBay. However buyer beware.

I don't know why one woofer does not work. Have you looked at it and checked out the crossover?
