Looking for recommendations on pair of ceiling speakers. They will be going above our bed in the master bedroom. I have a Samsung lcd in the bedroom and the sound is awful. I am not looking for something that is really expensive. I was over a buddies house tonight and he showed me his Polk RC 80s that he had in his garage. The garage had really high ceilings. He turned it on and my first impression was, "wow for ceiling speakers these have some good low end to them" as it sounded almost like he had a sub. They were also very clear as well. I was impressed.
He then cranked it up so loud that I thought he was going to blow the speakers and they were really distorted, although he thought that it sounded great. I highly doubt I will ever come close to even playing mine a fraction of that volume.
I was looking at the new Yamaha IC800/ Polk RC80/ Klipsch R1600.
I know have heard many talk about Niles but I haven't heard them and not sure about the cost. It will be used for background music during reading and movies.

I am in the same situation as yours and was wondering if you ever found good in ceiling speakers. I was thinking of getting Polk RC80i for the rears and TC80i for the fronts. Do you think that would be a good combination. Thanks for the help.

I ended up going w the polk RC80i for the bedroom. For ceiling speakers they go fairly low. I wasn't impressed by the build. For the money they are great and reviews looked great. I feel as though the bass gets somewhat distorted at times. I feel that for the money they were comparable to the klipsch I demo'd.

Finally found a thread on ceiling speakers. I am debating between ceiling speakers or in-wall speakers for my general hang out/poker area of my basement that is being remodeled. I am already putting in a HT area, and have a 7.2 system picked out, so these speakers will be mostly for music.....Although, I am putting 4 32"-36" tv's in this room, so some sound will be for tv. The only speakers I have really looked at is the Aperion in wall and in ceiling speakers, and they seem to be quality speakers. If anybody has any suggestions please let me know. I thinking of putting 2-4 speakers in this room, so maybe a combination of in-ceiling/in-wall speakers would be best. Also I am looking to spend from $150-$250 per speaker.

While Im happy with the Polks I installed in the bedroom I am sure the Aperion would be even more pleasing. Since they were for the bedroom I wasn't as picky. Since they are not really for HT and more for hang out I'm sure you'll be happy with the Aperion (based on reviews) I haven't heard them.

I just picked up a Pioneer VSX-921K for $229 US from Walmart.com. I ordered it about 2 weeks ago. About 2 days after, the price went to $249.99. Still an awesome deal for that price. Had it shipped to a store and then crossed the border to get.

I'm using this (kinda overkill) to run just a 2.1 setup in my living room. My old Yamaha RXV496 is now powering 12 ceiling speakers. I've wired up my old Denon dvd player to both the Pioneer (HDMI) and Yamaha (optical). What I really wanted to do was run my front towers in the living room on the new Pioneer from Zone B, but that strictly plays stereo only with no subwoofer capabilities. If I didn't upgrade my theatre sub, this would have worked out for me. There would have been enough speaker connects for all the ceiling speakers and the towers (plus I could have just turned off the towers if needed to with the switch).

Anyways, I'm running Yamaha NS-IW360C. They sound okay. I won't get too caught up in spending a massive amount of money for ceiling speakers. Just remember that they are mounted in the ceiling that will act as one big opening. Unless you build a little enclosure for each speaker. I find that it's nice to turn on for some background music..... that's all.
