Ceiling speaker placement questions

I need some advice on speaker placement. I searched the forum and didn't find quite what I was looking for. Here's my question. I have a room that is 18 x 14 with wood floors and I have my television placement against the 14 foot wall. I have a 12 foot flat ceiling and would really like to use ceiling mount speakers if feasible. I also have no interest in using in-the-wall speakers.

Would it be feasible to install two Polk TC80s in the front ceiling corners and place another TC80 in between the two front channels to use as a center. At the back of the room I would use two TC60 for rears. Is the sound is going to be horrible? I've had one person tell me it will sound great and another tell me that it will sound ok but not great because the sound is from above. BTW, I'm using a Velodyne DLS 3750 for my sub if that matters any.

Or should I just keep my Polk RTi12s, RTi6s and my center CSi5 and deal with it?

Any advice (good or bad) is much appreciated!!! THANKS!!!

You never want to place in-ceiling speakers in the corners.

You also want to use in-ceiling speakers with aim-able drivers and tweeters. Speakers with aim-able tweeters only are not the way to go.

So ceiling placement just really isn't all it's cracked up to be? Thanks for the response. I'm keeping the towers and stands.

It is fine for casual background music. :D

I think in-ceiling would be OK for the surrounds or better the rear surround since they don't get as much use. I've described my situation (which I won't bore you with) before.

Short story: I highly recommend that you get into the attic and scope out the potential locations before you even decide to purchase in-ceiling anything. They typically have requirements like placement at least 1" from a joist or beam and you need to find out before you start if your speaker of choice can be placed there without too much trouble. I canceled my in-ceiling project because the grills of the speaker will not cover the hole in the ceiling the builders kindly left for me and I'm not in the mood for major drywall repair and painting the entire ceiling.
