I have a Denon 3930ci
Well, the 3930CI definitely has bragging rights: $1500, Realta, Burr-Brown PCM-1796!:D

The Oppo players don't have the bragging rights, but they are more practical and sound just as good IMO, even when compared to the DVD-5910CI.

Honestly, you don't even need that good of a sound card if you are going spdif. Digital is the ultimate equalizer. It's DAC's that vary.

Not all digital outs are created equal. As well as not all sound cards can pass the digital signal the same.

Cheers,

The 3930ci is a nice player, no doubt. However sending the audio DSD via Denon Link defeats the reasoning for the DACS. In an analog set-up it would be fantastic. I do love how DVD's look on it though. I just wanted to make the point that if the o/p is looking for digital output of cd's not to go crazy with the player, as at that point the recievers DAC's are what's going to do the work.

I'm going to disagree a bit here. My Panny DVD player sounds flat. Using the dac in my Denon avr it was bright. I bought a stand alone dac. The 707 ( I paid around $75 without the USB). This has much improved my sound. Recently I got a 2 channel amp which vastly improved my sound. I then decided to upgrade my dvd to a dedicated cd player: I picked up a slightly used Onix xcd88 which I just received today. It's a lovely unit. But it's bright and I plugged it into the 707 dac. So basically, I blew $200 for a transport. I love that little dac... Unfortunately I cannot post a link to the dac cause I'm a newbie:eek:...
Unless you are using Tone Controls or Equalizers, these CD/DVD players or DACs should not sound differently. Double-blinded studies have proven that.
