CD Player Not Reading Discs

Hello All,

Im having an issue with my NAD C541i not reading discs when they are first put into the player. They have to be reloaded 3 to 4 times until the player reads the discs. The unit plays the discs fine once they are read. The unit is a little over two years old and out of warranty. I was wondering if anyone has in idea of what the issue might be. One person has mentioned I use a lens cleaning disc to try and correct the issue. However I have read those can cause more issues than good. Im very skeptical since I have never had to use one before in any player I have ever had. To also make it known this happens with any disc I put in. All of my discs are in pristine condition with no blemishes. This problem has proggresively become worse over 3 to 4 months.

Im about ready take it in for repair and want to have an idea of what the problem might be. Maybe an idea of what the repair might cost as well would be handy. Or if its worth it. I dont want to get scammed on the repair.

Smoke residue can collect on the focusing lens of the laser assembly. This has been known to cause the problem you describe. I have used a laser lens cleaner on all types of CD palyers with no ill effects. If you already have a problem you might want to give a cleaner a try. I have had the same problem you describe. The only way I have been able to get rid of it was to replace the player. Service costs will run $50 to $75 or more an hour. With minimum charges at 2 hours bench time it may be more economical to replace rather than repair.

Damn that is not what I wanted to hear. I guess when you figure bench time and potetential part replacement its probably gonna run two bills at least. I should at least give the lens cleaner a try. If it does not work I can probably take it back. At least I have my DVD player to tide me over.

It sounds like your focusing lens needs a touch up on the allignment causing the problem you're having. Usually when the lens needs cleaning the unit will give you an error like "insert disk" or similar to that.

The fact that it takes the disk 3/4 loadings untill it reads it, leads me to beleive the allignment if off, which is a very simple movement of the lens to reallign it. Check with a service company, find out what the charges are. It might be worthed having it done.

It's out of warranty so why not pull the case off and see if anything obvious. Try a Q tip, it is free
Then, maybe softly nudge the lense. You cannot mess it up any worse.
