I'm currently using a Sony DVD player as my CD player (model K82P) in my bedroom.

it takes ages to boot up, read a disc and eject the tray. when I turn on the player, I want to just press the play button and leave. with the sony, you can't do anything while it reads, hitting play doesn't do anything. you have to wait til it reads the disc, identifies the number of tracks before you can hit play.

my HT player is almost the same, usually, after watching a movie, I leave the disc in the player and change it with a new disc the next time I want to watch something new. I want to be able to turn on the player, hit eject, and out comes the tray.

I remember my old Pioneer DVD 525 K player (which I gave to my bro) to have an old style "depressible" power button (kinda like a master on or off) and when I hit eject, out comes the disk faster than you can take your finger off the eject button.

Will buying a dedicated CD player from Rotel give me the fast boot/fast play/fast eject function I want? (no demos over here)

also, does any other player have a one click (on the remote or player face plate) repeat button? you know the ones that old school CD players had ... press it once, it will keep repeating the song, press it twice, it will repeat the CD ...

most of the newer DVD players need the OSD to access that option, and I don't want to turn on the TV just to do that.

I considered getting 3 cheapo pioneer DVD players (three 696 models are the same price as one rotel CD player) because it would look really cool and had the functions of a CD changer, but realized that if I used the remote, all three would do the same action

Denon DCD-685 first impressions:

-It really is very fast. it's so fast, when you turn it on with a disc already inside, it plays it automatically. ? :)

-no 12v trigger (that's ok, my receiver doesn't have one anyway)

-no power ON/OFF button on the remote, you have to kill it manually.

-repeat function is only set to "repeat all" instead of what I thought to be the same as car head units that have: repeat all, repeat song options. but it's good to have.

-program function is ultra cool as well. reminds me of my old school Kenwood CD player.

note: all of the above functions can be done on the front panel of the player, there is no stupid OSD to go to just to program/repeat to a CD.

I feel you. Although you are talking about home use, I have the same issue in my car. By the time I load a new disc I am already were I was going.

And this is on my BOSE...hehehe...yes, I have a BOSE system in my car; it even has a 10" BOSE sub. I really didnt even know about the sub until I was cleaning it out the other day. I tilted the driver seat up and low and behold; I big BOSE sub right behind the seat. You would think that I could hear it or feel it or something...lol...
