I do think there is a difference, especially when connected via analog. BUT, the difference between what he has and something that is $100-200 more is probably not going to make enough of a difference to be worth the change IMO. With DVD-2930CI Denon added time delay control for SACD that the 2910 lacks. This might be worth the upgrade if he listen to MCH SACD.
