Cassette Tape Case Question

IF you are a certain age you probably remember the cassette tape. Now more or less obsolete, many music lovers have "upgraded" to digital formats. Going through my 200-plus tape collection I found many have holes on both ends of the case, I'm guessing it was for some type of steel rod security system?

Maybe. But I never saw that when I was a kid. I also imagine that it could have been part of the assembly line setup. A way to move and align the case so that things could be fit into it properly and exactly every single time.

I don't remember that either. I had cassettes until about 2000 or so but never paid any attention to their cases.

Been so long since I've used cassettes....but don't remember those cutouts either. I didn't buy many pre-recorded ones, tho and don't remember that at all for blanks. It does make me think of perhaps fitment in a display rack....
