demoed the new DVD 7 from cary audio this weekend. as a current owner of the DVD 6, was excited to see what the new model had to offer, & i was not disappointed. the video was the best i have seen from a DVD player. over the weekend had friends & family over, none of which are video or audiophiles. all liked the 480i picture out of the dvd 7 over 720p or 1080i out of my denon 2910. however once i hooked up the progressive output (had to find bnc adapters) it was an incredible picture, clearly superior to the dvd 6 picture quality. the audio portion sounded fantastic as well, but was not quite as big an improvement over the dvd 6 as the video. however i was the 1st to use the audio connections (dealer had only used digital) so unit was not broke in. dealer is going to hook it up & let it play continuously for awhile & then going back for another demo. this is not to say that the dvd 7 does not sound better than the dvd 6, it does - but it also has xlr connections & the ability to turn the internal volume control off, which the dvd 6 lacks. switching between the 7 & the 6 i used a spl meter to compensate for the xlr/rca difference in volume between the 2. using the rca on the dvd 7, i could not distinquish the sound from the dvd 6. unsure whether i will purchase it or not, unless the break in truly results in a significant increase in the sound quality over the dvd 6 (i doubt it but i try to keep an open mind). however if you don't own a dvd 6 & are looking for a 1080p dvd player which has exceptional redbook cd playback, take a look (& listen) to the new dvd 7.
