I am restoring a 65 mustang and one of these kits looks like an interesting option for adding a subwoffer.

I wouldn't use this exact kit, but a similar concept with better quality components. Basically dual 8" or 10" woofers are mounted on the barrier between the trunck and the back seat (mine is sheet metal sprayed with a few coats of Second Skin Spectrum). The woofers fire into the back seat.

How would the performance of this setup comare to a small sealed (truck type) subwoofer box with a single 10" or 12" subwoofer located in the trunk?
Taking over the trunk with a huge sub box is not an option.

I don't think either option would be a good idea, you would be better off building a box that fits it your spare tire well or fiberglass it in there. use alot of dynamat!!!
