Hey, it's the receiver section, right?
So here's my dilemma. I want a new deck. The Bose in the Acura RSX-S truly sucks.
I told my last one (I've had 3) to my best friend. He dropped in his Alpine deck from his old car, and WOW, world of difference in the SQ. I knew that, but I always tried to ignore it. Now I have given in to one of man's flaws (jealousy).
I was looking around for decks, thinking navi and bells and whistles, blah blah blah... I got to thinking, I just want a deck with the utmost in SQ, the ability to plug in a USB storage device and read my music, and have a decent enough display to navigate through the listings.
I don't want navi. Personally I like the portables that I can put in the exact right place rather than something in the dash. I don't even care about CD, which makes two of Alpine's decks look real good.
Eclipse makes an incredibly bad-@$$ receiver with 8V pre-amp outs and no internal amp. I've seen this thing in action hooked up to sick gear, and the SQ is unbelievably. However, it would literally beg me to rip out the whole stock system and do a nice install, and I don't want to be tempted.
Some of these Valor units look good in theory, but I have no idea how they sound or how reliable they are. I bet they're a junk brand like Pyle (steaming) or American Pro or Audiovox. If you know otherwise, please do tell.
Pio makes one deck that I fell in love with. The FH-P8000BT. It looks sweet, it would be beautiful in the Bose location, it puts out nice quality sound, has a simple yet BIG gorgeous display... but it's illumination is only blue. I really wanted something I could turn red to match every light in the interior.
I know, that's worthy of being b*tch-slapped, but I really want it to look good with the interior and as stock as possible.
I'm totally open to suggestions, but there's one caveat... I'm trying to buy from Best Buy's selection of units. Unless I found something that is exactly what I want to the detail, I'd rather not waste more money and just get something from there.
My other thought... modify the P8KBT to output red illumination. If it's just LEDs, I can crack it open and find similar parts to replace. If it's filters, just change them. The LCD display is a lot more difficult, but might be possible. Yes, unfortunately I am that caught up in the red look... have mercy on me.
Well, feel free to discuss. Right now, Kenwood DDX514 is winning the fight...
