Well, after a hard day's work, I came home, had some dinner, and was enjoying some Counter Strike Source when my dad bursts in to my room and says " There was a car crash out front, they hit your car."

I got my shoes, went outside to see what? My car smashed by a last generation honda prelude. It was a chase and the guy was drunk, and theres a main drag a couple of streets over from mine so he came into my 'hood and turned down my street.

I was supposed to put gas in the car today (on E) and I forgot to, lucky me.

The funny part is my Toyota Tercel was less damaged (still write off) then that new car.

post comments if you like.

yeah the guy was arrested, right in front of me.

I only paid 900cad for the car, and I'm getting it all back and more, so I don't really care.

I see you live in British Columbia...I would take the money and spend the winter in whistler blackcolm.

Good luck with the insurance.
Luck no one was hurt.

At least the drunk did not hit you when you were in the car, which is what happened to me.

yeah, I was inside. The money will go towards another car, I don't like sking or snowboarding. Im looking at 1987 Toyota Corolla GTS's and 1990 Honda CRX Si's.

My stereo is worth much more then my car. People say I should have bought a nicer car, but its for A to B, not racing.

Soon I will have enough for my new subwoofer, and when I get it, I will post a review in the forum.

That sucks sheep. At least they caught the guy, and no one was hurt. Insurance will take care of you and I hope the courts take care of that guy.

I don't know about Canada, but if he was here in Broward County Florida, he would be in a heep of trouble. If by chance it would have been a second dui within 5 years, there would likely be prison time. Also some super fines come along with this charge as well. Plus revoked licencse, etc..
Is it a bad penalty crime in Canada?

Minimum 1 yr suspended license, up to $5000 fine, driver automatically goes into a type of insurance called "the Pool" where he will be looking at a minimum of $450-$500 a month for insurance for at least one yr, if he commited any other felonies, which he did according to Sheep, then his vehicle will be fitted with an immobilizer that will only work upon completion of a breathalizer test. He must pay for the immobilizer. The guy is also available for all kinds of lawsuits from insurance companies for property damage. Prison should be a real possibility for him too, but it most likely won't be a lengthy stay. Here's the drawback though, all of these punishments will only work on an "honest" criminal. Why would a guy who thinks nothing of driving drunk be willing to pay for insurance if it's so high? And on and on.

Actually thats about all the stuff that can and usually does happen here to a first time dui with no prior felonies (I believe fine can be a little higher). A second dui within 5-7 years all that stuff is doubled, or even other felonies.

When I talked about the felonies I meant if he commited any others at the same time he was intoxicated, Sheep said the guy was trying to get away, that's resisting arrest. He hit Sheep's car and if sheep gets over $1000 as payment then again we have another felony, and on and on. I think that the penalties for drunk drivers are way too low. I think that the first time should be a warning with relatively little punishment as long as no one gets hurt and the offendor goes into a program, the second is a lifetime ban from driving and 5 yrs in jail, third = life in Prison. Eventually a drunk driver will kill someone else. I see way too much of this crap every week. Usually it's only fender benders but once or twice a month I get something worse coming accross my desk. There was a case in toronto about a week ago, someone driving down the wrong side of the highway went head-on with a lady and her daughter. In this case the only one that died was the drunk driver but it is usually the other way around. I didn't work on this case but I have worked on some really sad ones.

Sheep,

Sorry to hear of the excitement, but as you pointed out...it's only a tool. (A/V is a way of life, lol.) There will be relpacement aggravation involved, so sorry about that too.

The major problem here in the northwest, and I suspect all over the U.S. is that perpetual drunks merely become perpetual drunk drivers. My wife works for the local PD and she has seen guys busted more than 10 times!!!!! and still keep on violating court orders and get their hands on vehicles they're not supposed to own..no insurance, of course...drive and get busted again. The courts are way too lenient here. It takes a situation where someone if finally injured or worse before the offender is hauled off to prison.

That sucks man. Well, at least you'll get enough to go towards another car, then it's OK. It still is not cool, but not a total loss. I'd probably say go with the CRX if it snows a bunch. IMO, RWD is MUCH more fun and the AE86 is a great car, but not necessarily in the snow. I drive a 93 S13 (240SX) and I love it. The first week, I replaced most of the suspension... The whole car, including suspension, cost well below what my HT cost :D
