Hehehe, I know all about the tricks the mind can play.

However, something must have changed since several people, who did not know I did this, and don't care about audio in the least, rode in the car and wondered why it was so damn quiet and thought I had installed a subwoofer. :D

OK. So most everyone here really likes their home audio/HT.

I've also found that most people that enjoy listening to home audio also enjoy it in their cars.

Where do you go on the net for equivalent audio information as audioholics, but for cars?

I'm not looking for the outrageous SPL stuff, but to make my car sound better.
Alpine and Eclipse head units are the best. Period.

JL subs are the best sounding. Period.

MB Quart is the best high-end. Period. If you don't like the hard dome tweeters, then Dynaudio is the way to go. Period.

Linear Power amps are my favorite, but there are many good brands.

Have you heard McIntosh's mobile audio stuff?

I liked Alpine speakers over MB. I also like JL amps the most. Alpine headunits all the way though! :)

I agree on the MB Quart part. I have a JL Audio 12" sub in a sealed enclosure - a little overboard for my listening, but it still sounds very nice when turned down to an acceptable level. Very clean and punchy in the sealed box. Also agree on Alpine and Eclipse, although I'm partial to Alpine.

After my home audio set up is finally done (like in a couple of years) then I'll move onto upgrading the MB Quarts.

Alpine speakers over MB Quart? You must be crazy! Have you heard the two side by side? There is no comparison. The Alpines do go lower in the mid-bass, at the cost of midrange detail.

If the Quart tweeter is too detailed(which I love), then a Dynaudio soft dome system will satisfy even the most critical phile.

JL amps are good, but they can't handle the load a good ole Linear Power or Phoenix Gold can.

I do agree on the Alpine head unit, but Eclipse are very nice and should be considered if the price is right.

Alpine make some great H/U but the new glide touch are crap to use. But i love my old 9835. DLS and Rainbow are awesome sound quality gear, mostly handmade but very accurate detailed sound and dls make awsome amps and subs. If you want loud the Digital designs all the way, check out the SPL records and see why. Oh and lets not forget Adire audio guys.

I'd say the Ascendant Audio subs give JL a run for their money.

JL subs aren't all they are made out to be, IMO you can get much better for the money.

Got a sub installed yesterday.

I went with a 10" Elemental Designs (the 11kv.2) sub and a Pioneer amp.

This is having its signal sent to it from a sony head unit.

Getting the fuse installed under the hood was the hardest part.

The sub sounds good. Very clear and loud as heck when pushed.

I had the Sony head unit since before starting the thread.

Elemental designs www.edesignaudio.com/us.php came recommended earlier in the thread. Did some reading. They're supposed to be good for SQ.

Pioneer amp... I've used their HUs and liked them. It's doing good so far. We'll see if it was a good purchase or not.

Looks like a real boomer. Did you get the DVC 2ohm, or DVC 4ohm?

Head-units and amps are two different things. When you purchase an amp to drive a sub, you want one that can handle a heavy load so you can run a low ohm set-up for best results. Which model did you get?

I heard some at FS and the Alpines over at A&B sound. I perfer the Alpines. The MB's were REALLY nice, far better then anything FS had, but I still liked the mid high detail of the Alpines.

However, I will probly get MB's because FS carries them; IE DISCOUNT! :)

I have always liked JL subs, but usually a decent sub in a sealed enclosure (NOT a 60Hz tuned junk box) will sound good. I was at Beam Riders a little while ago and they had some cheap 10inch sub in a small (very small) sealed enclosure and it sounded better then anything else they had. All because it was not pumping at 60Hz. 2 of those would be a great system for a car.

The Amp I got is the somewhat older 5200T it supports 380w RMS bridged on at 4-ohms.

I got the DVC 2-ohm sub.

The goal is to eventually do components in the front, and put another sub in the rear on a different amp at 2-ohms overall. (Two speakers wired in series for 4-ohms each, then in parallel for 2-ohms total).

I agree 100%. I am a small "sealed sub" guy myself.;)

Sounds good.;) Better not try the "goal" with that Pioneer. :D Just move it to run the high-end, and drop a Linear Power or Phoenix Gold in there for the subs.
