Do you think that a pair of Canton GLE 490.2's are worth 1800 dollars taxes in?
I recently visited the local dealer and they were raving about how well the .2's out perform the .1's. The speakers sound great but i'm just not sure they're worth $1800 dollars... any intel would be appreciated thanks.

I'm a dealer of Canton speakers and can help you....

Your dealer is a liar. Period point blank.

The GLE 490.1 vs. 490.2 is mainly cosmetic and has to do with a thiner baffle plate.

There is a very, & I mean very little difference between a few HZ bass extension and a little loudness. So little, in fact, that in a double blind test you couldn't tell the difference even if you went back 10 years. This is per my contacts at Canton, who I just called for you to double check. He said that while he couldn't imagine anyone doing so or recommending it, you couldn't tell the difference even if you used a .1 as the Left & the .2 as a Right in a stereo pair. They are that similar.

Also, as far as your pricing goes, your dealer is a pirate. MSRP on the GLE490.2 is $700 each = $1400 a pair here in the US at least. I don't know where you live, but (roughly) 30% in tax is a little much, wouldn't you say?

If you can't find a reputable dealer near you and you need assistance, PM me and I'll try to help you if I can. The speakers are fabulous and not much different from their Chrono and Ergo lines, which are much much pricier. Good luck and I hope you have a better shopping experience elswhere!

Hey thanks for the useful info... I live in Toronto, Canada and Tabangi Electronics seems to be the only dealer i can find. I did feel that the price was a bit much considering the .1's were selling for about 1399. I do like the Canton's they have a very distinctive sound but its very hard to find a reputable seller in my area....

I'm sorry, but I don't know what the Canadian MSRP is so I can't give you acurate information on that front. I will say that the .2 did NOT increase over the .1 here in the US, so I do not see why they would do so in Canada unless there is something economically/politically that would've caused it.

For $1800/pair you could buy a pair of JTR Triple 8s or Aperion Verus Grands!

Not that I've heard Cantons or have anything to really add to this thread :D

Have you heard the JTR Tripple 8s or Aperions?

I have had two Canton Karat 20 shelf speakers since 1989 and I'm still using them. But I'm looking to upgrade to floor speakers. I've been looking at the Gle 470.2's as well as the Ergo's. You're right. The Gle's are considerably cheaper but I have added a NAD C 390DD Direct Digital Powered DAC Amplifier to my system. Also I don't live anywhere near a Canton dealer. Any suggestions? Thanks.
