I will attempt an answer here, mostly to give this post a bump to the top.
When you send LPCM to the receiver, the signal has already been decoded in the player. So the receiver will not show that it is decoding Dolby Digital, because it isn't. That's been done in the player already. When you switch to Wii or XBox, they are sending a bitstream which the receiver needs to decode, and it's telling you that it is in fact decoding the signal.
The S550 has the option to bitstream. If your receiver has the ability to decode all the codecs, you can change the settings in the player's audio setup menu, Dolby Digital to Dolby Digital (from Downmix PCM) and DTS to DTS (from Downmix PCM). This will send a bitstream signal to the receiver that the receiver will decode and display the format on the screen.
