Cannot Get Receiver From Linear PCM to Dolby Digital

I have a problem that I cannot seem to figure out. Here is what I have:

Sony BDP-S550) BluRay Player
Sony STR-DG1000 Multi Channel Theatre Receiver
Sony 65" Rear Projection HD TV

I have my cable box and BluRay Player both hooked into the receiver with HDMI cables and one HDMI cable outputted from the receiver into the TV so the cable box and the disc player both share the same input (input 7) on the TV. I change the receiver from TV to DVD depending on what I am watching and the applicable video and audio signals come through.
The problem is that I cannot get Multi Channel Decoding to come through the speakers when I play a disc. Instead the receiver reads " Linear PCM [48kHz]" It is decent sound but not full multi channel decoding through the 6.1 speaker arrangement. The blue "Multi Channel Decoding" light does not light up on the receiver.
The confounding thing is that the "Multi Channel Decoding Light" does light up when I change the input to the Wii or XBox I also have hooked up to the TV, if I change inputs while I am still playing a disc. In other words, I am getting Dolby Digital "Full Channel Decoding" through the receiver from the BluRay Player as long as the TV input is not on input 7 (shared by the TV and BluRay). Once I switch the TV input to Input 7 the sound on the receiver downgrades and the receiver reads " Linear PCM [48kHz]".
I have gone over the TV, receiver, and BluRay owners manuals and cannot figure out what is wrong. I assume there is a setting on the receiver that I need to change to solve the problem, but for the life of me I cannot figure out what that might be. Any suggestions?
The BluRay Dolby sound is wonderful through the receiver until I switch to the BluRay input. It is driving me nuts.

Set your player to output bit stream.

I will attempt an answer here, mostly to give this post a bump to the top.

When you send LPCM to the receiver, the signal has already been decoded in the player. So the receiver will not show that it is decoding Dolby Digital, because it isn't. That's been done in the player already. When you switch to Wii or XBox, they are sending a bitstream which the receiver needs to decode, and it's telling you that it is in fact decoding the signal.

The S550 has the option to bitstream. If your receiver has the ability to decode all the codecs, you can change the settings in the player's audio setup menu, Dolby Digital to Dolby Digital (from Downmix PCM) and DTS to DTS (from Downmix PCM). This will send a bitstream signal to the receiver that the receiver will decode and display the format on the screen.

edit - TLS beat me to it while I turned on my S550 to find the exact names for the settings.:D
