Can someone recommend me an amplifier for my setup?

My signature has all my equipment listed. I love the Yamaha 6060 as a processor. But I can tell it's missing a lot of dynamics, especially in the bass department for music. I think my speakers are driving it to the limit despite me keeping the volume down. I think either a 2ch or a 5ch amplifier is what I need. But I'm unsure about what kind of power I need. Don't want to go overboard.

Hi there,

What's your budget? I like my Sunfire Cinema Grand that I picked up on AudiogoN. I'm using 200 WPC biamped to my mains, and it never runs out of steam. The other channel for the center. There is also a 7 channel version.

Of course, there are many other fine amps out there as well.

My budget would be about $500. No more. Preferably used from a reputable maker. My speakers are extremely neutral and that's the kind of tone I'm looking for. My 6060's amp section isn't all that great and soundstage is lacking.

For your budget I would have to suggest checking out emotiva. They have a 2 channel amp or even a 5 channel amp at that price range. I personally don't have any experience with a seperate amp but will soon have the emotiva IPS-1. Based on everything that I've read I havent heard any complaints really about emotiva. So that is my suggestion.

Check out the LPA-1 from Emotiva, not sure how much longer the sale is on for, but if you got it today, you would be able to get it for around $500 shipped.

Emotiva all the way for a $500 amplifier. Outlaw may have something as well.

If you don't like Emotiva, you could could look for an used Carver AV-505 or AV-805 on ebay or audiogon. Parasound is another good alternative to look at for used amplifiers. The Emotiva is probably your best bet though.:)

You will not be disappointed with the EMO. Just call them and talk to Lonnie. Heck; he might even talk ou out of buying an amp.

OK, I know this is the Emotiva forum, but here are some other options, all used.

Adcom ($350)
NAD ($300)
Something Different ($220)
Audio Alchemy OM-150 ($525) -- I actually have one of these, and it's a great two-channel amp!
An older Bryston ($300)

That's just from the first couple pages of AudiogoN's solid state power amp listings. Personally, I'd go with a two-channel amp for the mains and let the receiver do the rest. I know that most (actually, all, I believe) are two-channel amps, and that the Emotiva is a five or seven channel amp, but I'm just giving some options.
