I would

say you should be fine as long as the run is short. For a long run the load would deteriorate and effect sound quality also don't listen at high volumes.:)

I don't think 2 runs of 24ga equals 12ga. I can't remember.

It would be more like 21 gauge.

When you "double up" two wires, you essentially drop three guages. i.e. doubling up an 18 gauge wire will effectively yield a 15 gauge conductor, two 14s will give an 11 gauge conductor, etc...

well i kinda figured it wouldnt equal out to 12gauge thats why i have 100' on the way in the mail...but my main concern is ..can i hurt my new toys by doing this...ive been putting this system together for 3 months and i finally have everything except the wire ..i thought for sure it would be here before my center speaker

Why waste a bunch of wire (and effort) if you've got better stuff coming within the week?

Just go with the 24g stuff for now, it's not going to sound terrible, and when the new stuff arrives you won't notice a huge difference. And hey if you do notice a huge difference at least it's an improvement so you'll be happy anyway.

You won't be doing a serious disservice to your new system using thin speaker wire temporarily.

Yes, by all means, use it until the 12 ga arrives:D
Wait with calibrations until afterwards but you can set your system up, speakers size, distance if that can be selected, etc. Level match with the 12ga. in place.

I'd probably go to Home Depot and buy a few $3 12' 16-guage extension cords to use for the front speakers in the meantime :)
