I have a receiver. Speaker outputs are normal positive/negative speaker wire clips. I have two 18 inch subwoofers that are just sitting on my floor. No cabinet or crossover, just asking if it's OK to run direct speaker wire from the receiver to the positive/ negative connect on the 18 inch subwoofers??

Yes, speaker wire can be directly connected from the receiver to each driver.

If that sub is passive without any amplification, the answer is yes.

The only caveat, is that we don't know what your receiver is. Receivers do not normally have speaker level sub outs. You can not connect the sub in parallel with your mian speakers. For one, there will be no crossover and your sub will be full range, and that will not work. The other issue is that you can't connect the sub in parallel with other speakers.
