i have a yamaha receiver 5.1.
i have five speakers and a sub woofer already connected.
i want to know if i can connect two more speakers for the outside to the left and right front speaker posts on my receiver?
i would have a total of 7 speakers and a sub woofer.
Will this hurt my receiver?

Check your owner's manualand see if it's up to handling the combined impedance of the additional speakers.

Remember, when you connect two speakers in parallel, the total impedance seen by the amp is lower than it is for one. i.e. Two 8 ohm speakers in parallel wind up being a 4 ohm load on the amp. And this is only an example. Most impedance ratings are "nominal", or averaged. The actual impedance may drop below the stated amount at some frequencies.

...and some amps don't really like low impedance loads.

FWIW, the formula for figuring the impedance of speakers in parallel is:
(R1 X R2)....(8 X 8)....(64)
--------- or ------ or ---- or simply 4
(R1 + (R2)....(8 + 8)....(16)

i think he means the a and b ternimals for the fronts.

yes its fine, i have tried it before. make sure you have enough room for them because it can become overwhelming.
